‘70 Chevelle LS6. I don’t know much about the Chevelles and Malibus, but my understanding is that the ‘70 LS6 is pretty much the crème de la crème. Add to my knowledge.

The LS6 is the fastest Chevelle they ever built. 454 with 450 horsepower. A Malibu was basically the “luxury” trim if I remember right. And if it’s a 4 speed, it’s worth some big bucks.

Add to my knowledge.

It’s green.

And I love it.

This is my dream car. The car chase in Jack Reacher with one of these is epic too.

Underrated 454 (450 horse), available 4-speed Muncie, and I think it was a one year only package.

It is absolutely the creme-de-la-creme of Chevelles, bar none.

I believe the LS6 carried the highest horsepower rating of any GM car of that era - and actually the highest rated of the Big 3 from that era. Granted, that’s because a few other engines (L88, ZL-1, Hemi, Boss429) were underrated, but still.

You know that old saying “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for I am the baddest motherfucker in the goddamn valley.”?

It refers to the LS6 Chevelle.

That’s fairly conclusive, I think.

Wait how is it possible to have a 50% loss between crank and wheels?

Kinja'd!!! crowmolly > diplodicus

Kinja'd!!!2

Technically that is not what’s happening. Biggest HP loss for gross engines is typically exhaust systems. One test had the LS6 making 385 at the crank as-installed.

With all the older cars there’s two things to remember:

1.) Gross vs. Net, they don’t make nearly the same numbers by today’s standards.

2.) However, you could/can add stupid power for very cheap. Just adding headers and a free flowing exhaust to some of the old cars will give you a lot of power. Big blocks especially- some of the “hot” ones gained 50+ net hp on the engine dyno during modern testing.

Just manifolds vs headers:

The Chevelle LS6 was the highest hp rated car.

The LS6 was not the highest rated engine. LS7 was 465 hp over the counter. Not sure about the race hemi or Ford’s stuff.

Right - highest rated car is a better way to put it. I always forget about the LS7, but I don’t think it was offered from the factory to the general public?

All of the Big 3 had motors that would/could make over 450 HP, but I don’t *think* any of them rated a car higher that could be bought off the showroom floor.
